About John Methu Muhia
John Methu Muhia, born in 1991 in Kinangop, Nyandarua County, is one of Kenya’s youngest senators and a rising voice in national politics. Raised by his grandmother after his parents separated, he pursued education against financial odds, eventually earning a degree in Political Science from Pwani University with support from former Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi. His political journey began in 2017 when he contested the Nyandarua Senate seat under the Maendeleo Chap Chap Party but lost. He later worked as the personal secretary to the Speaker of Nyandarua County Assembly before clinching victory in 2022 as Senator under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), garnering over 185,000 votes. Known for his bold speeches and grassroots mobilization, Methu has chaired the Senate Lands, Environment, and Natural Resources Committee and is closely allied with Rigathi Gachagua. His influence extends beyond Nyandarua, as seen in his role during the 2026 Ol Kalou by-election, where he helped secure victory for a Democracy for the Citizens Party candidate. Married to Florence Mbugua and a father of one, Methu embodies resilience, youthful leadership, and a determination to shape Kenya’s political future.
