About Eddy Oketch Gicheru
Eddy Oketch Gicheru is a Kenyan politician, social entrepreneur, and climate advocate who currently serves as the Senator for Migori County under the ODM party. Born in 1991 in Migori, his early life in foster care shaped his passion for youth empowerment and community development. He studied at the African Leadership Academy in South Africa, later earning degrees from Trinity College in the U.S. and Yale University, and is now pursuing a PhD in Public Policy at the University of Nairobi. Beyond politics, he has founded organizations such as Ongoza, an SME incubator, and Treeco Fund, which promotes agroforestry and environmental sustainability. He also led Anywair Group, a fintech company providing micro-asset loans to underserved communities. Internationally, he has spoken at the G8 Summit, consulted for institutions like the World Economic Forum and MasterCard Foundation, and advised Mozambique’s presidency on youth employment. Recognized with awards such as the UNESCO International Youth Peace Ambassador title and the Obama Fellowship, Eddy Oketch continues to champion inclusive governance, climate resilience, and opportunities for young people across Africa.
